Paddy McCormack | Metal Artist
The journey into the world of craft began in the early 80’s with a diploma in musical instrument technology from the London College of Furniture. I then returned to the country of my birth, New Zealand, where I spent the first three years of my life. It was here I made the transition from working with wood to metal. This opened the floodgates of creativity and honing my existing skills to a new medium was exciting and challenging. Functional pieces such as chairs, tables, candleholders, mirrors, lamps, vases and bowls, sold in galleries throughout New Zealand.
Returning to Wicklow in ‘97, I exhibited at ‘Showcase’ for many years receiving an award for ‘Moon bowl’ and at ‘Sculpture In Context’ an award for ‘Vest’.
Now living in West Cork since 2001 I have been part of many joint exhibitions, including ‘10 Hands’ and ‘West Cork Creates’. Much of my work being commissioned, bespoke awards and presentation pieces.
