Having left Ireland in the 1970’s and qualified as an Aircraft Engineer and later as an Intensive Care Nurse, Mike finally came home in 2009 and settled with his wife and youngest son in their pre-famine farmhouse in West Cork.
Mike has nurtured a life long interest in stained glass which necessarily took a back seat during his busy professional career. Now he’s able to take time to devote to his art and the development of new ideas and designs.
Mike's pieces utilise cathedral and opalescent glass to produce a variety of designs embodying the ‘Tiffany’ method (soldered copper foil). He draws his inspiration from the wonderful West Cork coastline and landscapes. His themes include marine life, local flora and fauna elements, geometric designs and tessellated patterns.
